Creating our own travelling space buggy in 4th/5th/6th class

NASA is on a journey to Mars, with a goal of sending humans to the Red Planet in the 2030s. That journey is already well under way. Therefore, with “Space” as our theme for the week, it was of vital importance that we contribute some way to this feat and give NASA a helping hand! After some intense discussion, we decided that transport would be of vital importance in this expedition. After all, Mars is 6794 km in diameter!

We concluded that a space buggy would need to be built…..but not just any space buggy! This “unidentified driving object” (U.D.O.) would have to adhere to the harsh conditions Mars would present. As a result, certain criteria had to met as follows;

-has to be stable and not easy to blow over;

-has to be able to move forwards;

-has to be able to move over obstacles;

-must be made using everyday household items ( We don’t want to present NASA with an enormous bill now do we?!)

After carefully designing their own “UDOs” and by constantly adapting their space buggies to meet the requirements, I can now present to you the processes involved in construction and also the prospective vehicles that will hopefully be touring around Mars in the near future. We hope you like them!!!
